blk ppl hair

2 kick things off, I might as well address the issue of black women deciding to wear their natural hair. I'm mad as hell at the fact that black society has become so ignorant to our own natural beauty. We've been hoodwinked into believing that silky smooth, straight hair is the embodiment of true beauty. WTF?! I thought it was supposed to be what's inside that counts...maybe I was mistaken. & why do 'we' give each other such a hard time when it comes to hair? Now listen to this: if a blk woman sees another blk woman who needs a 'touch-up', more than likely she's gonna have sumthin negative to say about the fluffy-edged woman's hair, "Ooooo girl, now she KNOW she need a relaxer." Now on the other hand, hardly anybody voices disgust about seeing a 'sista' rocking some-damn-body else's long ass, straight ass, OBVIOUSLY-not-her-natural-texture hair! Its sickening, to say the least.

Why must we naturals endure stares, gawks, negative comments, exclusion, & discrimination JUST BECAUSE WE CHOOSE NOT TO KILL & DESTROY OUR BEAUTIFUL, FULL, THICK, CURLY, KINKY, GORGEOUS, ENVIED TRESSES W/ CHEMICAL HAIR STRAIGHTENERS?! (or straighteners at all for that matter)

How is it, that 'we' (blk folk), as a whole, have forgotten such an important part of our heritage & what sets us apart from the other 'brown' races of ppl? Hasn't anyone else noticed how 'they' try to mimic us?! All the while, we're sittin here tryin to figure out how to alter our natural appearances to better suit their expectations. & its crazy how many women 'go natural' & STILL have no clue what to do w/ their hair! I see this is gonna be a lingering topic in my blog...not gonna strain ur eyes too much longer on this particular post, though.

I'm just bothered by the whole 'going natural' thing. Like, why does it have to be 'going' natural....we were ALL already born that way....so, if anything, it should be called 'going chemical' or 'going straight' when a woman decides to permanently straighten her natural curl pattern. The natural hair community has coined the phrase 'creamy crack' in reference to chemical hair straighteners ('relaxers'). & I think that's exactly what it is....creamy crack. U get addicted to it, cant live w/out it. U even hate to see ur own natural curls peeping from under that flat, lifeless, dull cracked-out wig on ur head. & relaxers do sooo much damage to our hair!! Its unbelievable how loyal these crack-heads are. Yes, I said it. Its my blog & I can rant if I want to! LOL. If u lay out all the cons of relaxers along side the pros of wearing natural hair, I'd say that about 7.5 out of 10 crack-heads wont listen to shit u have to say as soon as they hear the words 'relaxers severely damage ur scalp, health, & hair'. & OMG, they'll cringe as soon as the thought of 'going natural' crosses their minds.

Yeah, I know, to each his own, right? WRONG! Facts r facts. Sumthing as seemingly trivial as HAIR is, indeed, killing our community, our society. DONT GET ME WRONG, I'M NOT MS. 'I'M BLACK & PROUD' & U ARE GONNA LISTEN. I, as an aquarian, share a deep love & concern for all ppl, no matter what the race. Humanity as a whole.
